Six months later, I was hoping for post-fire recovery: green growth, signs of a new life. But I saw charcoaled trees. Black, grey, no green – kilometre after kilometre.
I’ve heard recovery for some fire grounds won’t come (how unAustralian.) The burn was too intense. Too deep. I hope I’m wrong, but then again the update on native species lost during the summer is something like 3 billion across fire affected areas (July 2020). And that doesn’t include fish.
